Excited for Brandon Sanderson’s secret book release tomorrow. It has been a long time since I’ve started a book with thousands of other people on the same day. Probably not since Harry Potter. 📚

@manton did you back the kickstarter? I managed to prevent my fingers from pressing the buttons. But reading a book with a lot of other persons at the same time is fun.

Unrelated, but I’m still shocked to learn that The Lost Metal had ~70% preorders for the audiobooks!

@MrRooni I'm fine with waiting for the hardcovers. Planning to read at least the first one on ebook because I'm impatient. 🙂

@danj Way of Kings is excellent. If you want to jump right into the deep end and don't mind a 1000-page book, go for it. 🙂 Personally I started with Mistborn and I think that's where Brandon says most people should start just because it's not quite as daunting.

@manton if I want to mention someone on m.b. on my own “non m.b. site”, how would I do that? Should I send a webmention to their main page with an in-reply-to? Is this even supported by micro.blog? Thanks!

@brandontreb The best thing is to send a Webmention to a specific page, because then it can be added to a conversation. It should also work to send a webmention to their home page... That isn't tested often so to be honest not 100% sure, so lemme know.

@manton got it. The goal would be to start a new note and mention someone.For example, I wrote you here to start a discussion about this and related topics.Not sure you ever received a mention.

Also, per that post above, when I mention FROM my site, it doesn’t link my m.b. user

@brandontreb I don't see that reply in my Mentions, so Micro.blog must've missed it... The way you did it should have worked, as long as a mention was sent. For matching the mention with your username, make sure you have a rel link (described here) so that Micro.blog knows it's your site.

I’ll keep testing with post mentions and let you know what I find.

@MrRooni @manton Hardcovers are basically art for me these days, looking forward to getting them, looking through, and displaying, but I’ll just be reading the ebooks to keep those hardcovers looking pretty 😀

@danvpeterson @manton My hardcovers are well-loved. The dust jackets, however, are pristine. 🙂

@MrRooni @manton I get that. I think it mainly comes down to me reading a *lot* in small moments. So carrying around physical books all the time (like I used to) became something I left behind for the convenience of always having a reading device on me.

@jasonwise Yes, he sent an email to Kickstarter backers last night around midnight with download info. I'm sure they'll be additional updates when it's available separately for purchase, audiobooks, etc.
