Excited for Brandon Sandersonās secret book release tomorrow. It has been a long time since Iāve started a book with thousands of other people on the same day. Probably not since Harry Potter. š

@manton I completely forgot about this. I think I get the ebook and audio versions. Thanks for the reminder!
@manton did you back the kickstarter? I managed to prevent my fingers from pressing the buttons. But reading a book with a lot of other persons at the same time is fun.
@manton Iāll have to wait until the 10-11 as Iām not a backer!
Unrelated, but Iām still shocked to learn that The Lost Metal had ~70% preorders for the audiobooks!
@manton I did for the lost metal ^^
Canāt wait to start reading tomorrow morning :)
@V_ I did, couldnāt resist. Backed for the print editions too because Iāve read a lot of his only on ebook.
@manton Looks like a slight delay:
āHowever, we just found out that the Secret Project #1 premium hardcovers will no longer arrive next week as expectedāthe bindery is shutting down early due to an incoming severe snowstorm and the holidays. [ā¦] We will send another update as soon as the books have arrived and January assembly has begunālikely around the middle of the month. Thank you all for understanding!ā
@MrRooni I'm fine with waiting for the hardcovers. Planning to read at least the first one on ebook because I'm impatient. š
@manton Iāve meant to get into Sanderson for ages, and at this point his library is practically intimidating! š
Where would you recommend an epic fantasy fan start? Way of Kings?
@danj Way of Kings is excellent. If you want to jump right into the deep end and don't mind a 1000-page book, go for it. š Personally I started with Mistborn and I think that's where Brandon says most people should start just because it's not quite as daunting.
@manton if I want to mention someone on m.b. on my own ānon m.b. siteā, how would I do that? Should I send a webmention to their main page with an in-reply-to? Is this even supported by micro.blog? Thanks!
@brandontreb The best thing is to send a Webmention to a specific page, because then it can be added to a conversation. It should also work to send a webmention to their home page... That isn't tested often so to be honest not 100% sure, so lemme know.
@manton got it. The goal would be to start a new note and mention someone. For example, I wrote you here to start a discussion about this and related topics. Not sure you ever received a mention.
Also, per that post above, when I mention FROM my site, it doesnāt link my m.b. user
@brandontreb I don't see that reply in my Mentions, so Micro.blog must've missed it... The way you did it should have worked, as long as a mention was sent. For matching the mention with your username, make sure you have a rel
link (described here) so that Micro.blog knows it's your site.
@manton Thanks for the tip on the rel
link. Iāll be sure to add that.
Iāll keep testing with post mentions and let you know what I find.
Thanks so much for the help!
@danvpeterson @manton My hardcovers are well-loved. The dust jackets, however, are pristine. š
@jasonwise Yes, he sent an email to Kickstarter backers last night around midnight with download info. I'm sure they'll be additional updates when it's available separately for purchase, audiobooks, etc.
