@cdevroe I recently picked up an M3 MacBook Air, 16/1TB and have been impressed. Maybe pick one up first, determine if it’s enough, and if not, use it as your portable option to supplement a Mac Studio?

@cdevroe I was in a similar situation and ended up with a Mac Studio and while I don't regret it at all, I do kind of miss the portable power a modern MacBook Pro gave me for a while. Now over a year later, I'm thinking of picking up a M2 Air for portability?

@iChris And I would think an M-series Air can be found pretty inexpensively.

@briandigital If I only get a portable, I think I'll need a Pro rather than an Air. But, if I got a Mac Studio, I think I would only need an Air for travel. Mostly because of ports I'd think.

@iChris Also, it looks like you have a nice computer there that should last you until at least 2028.

@cdevroe i recently bought a MacBook Pro Max almost maxed out. It is replacing a desktop unit that had begun to seem impossibly slow. I thought about the studio set up but opted for the eventual purchase of a large high quality desktop monitor. My needs are graphics and photo editing mostly. The blazing speed though takes my breath away. Totally happy with purchase.

@cdevroe I hope it does! I bought it with video clients in mind, but those have sort of dried up for now so it feels like overkill for the audio clients I'm working with. But it's still a lot of fun to use. :)

@iChris, if you spend 98% of your time behind your desk, I would go for a desktop computer. For the remaining 2%, I’d go for the smallest form factor portable device, either an MB Air or an iPad.

I travel with an iPad (cellular model) nowadays. It has an Apple keyboard, and it has really replaced my laptop. The laptop is at my desk 100% of the time; it never leaves the USB dock.
