Watching the end of Spurs / Hornets. The refs made the right call here on the challenge, but overall the rule change to protect 3-point shooters' feet when they land has been taken too far. It’s being gamed, making defense too difficult. 🏀

@manton Fair, but the one that really drives me crazy is when they call the offensive foul on the shooter when his leg goes forward coming off a hard curl and you have to do that for balance. Should just be a no call.

@manton I should also add that since I’ve watched way more NBA the last several years, whenever I tune into a college game it helps me realize how good the NBA officiating is.

@calebgreene I generally agree, the officiating is pretty good! And the NBA is open to tweaking the rules. I think the 3-point fouling is solvable.

@manton yes, and with the offensive skill and sophistication so high now, tweaking things in favor of the defense would be advantageous I think.

@calebgreene One of my unanswerable basketball questions is how many PPG would MJ average with today’s defensive rules? 2 guards have it so much easier now than in the 90s, I can imagine him getting 3-5 PPG in FTs or less contested laps pretty easily.

@isaacgreene not to mention that 3-point shooting was hardly part of his game. He averaged 37.1 pts a game in the 1986-87 season. He was 12-66 from 3. For the season.

@calebgreene That’s just wild. Steph shoots that many every 6 games this season.
