What are your favourite 90s films?
@jeldo hey Jeldo, thanks for your suggestions 🙏🏽 yes Jackie Brown is classic and less violent than his others 😄 will check out those anime suggestions (have seen Princess M). It’s not 90s but I love Your Name…it’s a beautiful anime which you might enjoy.
At the weekend I watched The Firm and The Pelican Brief. I enjoyed Gattaca & Meet Joe Black a lot and Being John Malkovich was fun. Although Billy Elliot comes in at 2000, I love love love it 😄 The Full Monty too 🎉 The Bridges of Madison county was super profound and took me ages to get over 😅 Love from a catless cat lover 😸
Eclectic mix, I know. I still look for Dazed and Confused locations when I’m in Austin, Texas.
@hollyhoneychurch That is a great question!
Here are a dozen:
After Life,
The Limey,
Beau Travail,
Shallow Grave,
Miller’s Crossing,
Rushmore,
The Celebration,
Big Night,
Run Lola Run,
Jacquot.
Ratcatcher,
and
Eyes Wide Shut.
@hollyhoneychurch Off the top of my head:
@hollyhoneychurch it was a pretty good decade for films
@HerbT oooo thank you Herb, these looks interesting! My dad use to go on about the Three Colours series when I was younger. Maybe I’m just about grown up enough for it now (age 43).
@adamprocter Thanks Adam! Did you look up the 100 greatest 90s films by any chance? I was looking at it yesterday 😄
@jeldo Yes Run Lola Run was sooo good 😄 I will check out Satoshi Kon! I love revisiting films every decade or so. There are so many new things to discover.
@jean I agree and disagree with some of all these lists (Bottle Rcket excluded - but does ‘1’ make a list?)
… except your list … 💯on every single one.
@hollyhoneychurch yep I can’t recall what I watched in the 90s or if said film was in fact the 90s or earlier / later so that helped jog my brain to provide a smaller list probably missed some classics that didn’t make the 100 cut 🤣 … ah just checked one - wings of desire 1987 , stand by me 1986 - yep my go to list is probably more 80s
@hollyhoneychurch ah ha found one Abre los Ojos 1997. Not as good but Vanilla Sky (English remake 2001)of course being John Malkovih 1999, ground hog day , Fargo, Malcom X, heat, Jurassic park 93… Pola X (just for the Scott Walker score) - this list helped me find some more forgotten good ones 🤣 www.bfi.org.uk/lists/90-…
@hollyhoneychurch Rouge is my favourite of the three, but I think it’s time for a trilogy rewatch :) Prospero’s Books might be difficult to track down in an unmangled format, but it is stunning.
@adamprocter 😆 yes I love 80s just as much! Keep thinking of The Goonies these days 😄
@adamprocter ooo yeah love Vanilla Sky. That’s a great list, thank you! Will probably leave Crash at no.1 though!!!?
@hollyhoneychurch Somehow I forgot to list my all-time favorite: Until The End of the World (1991).
@jean @hollyhoneychurch Oh yeah! That should have made my list too. Saw it for the first time a few years ago. The director’s cut on Criterion. So good.
@jean @hollyhoneychurch I forgot it too!
@hollyhoneychurch Could probably just choose ones from 1999! That was a good year. But I won’t. The Matrix, Pulp Fiction, Fargo, Kicking and Screaming, Toy Story, Shakespeare in Love, Galaxy Quest, The Truman Show, Being John Malkovich, Before Sunrise, Three Colors:Red. Off the top of my head. So many more!
