The standard Micro.blog subscription is such a good value that I think Micro.blog Premium gets overlooked. Updated some of the docs today. In addition to email newsletters and bookmark features, Premium gets you 5 blogs, unlimited single-page websites, domain aliases, more. Consider upgrading! 🙂

It’s not well known! Really handy for creating landing pages, link-tree style websites, and other things.

@eatyourglory.xyz @manton I wasn’t aware of this one either. that’s handy. which help page(s) should one refer to in understanding more about premium?

@manton I agree, it’s great value!

Here are a few things that might make it even more tempting:

  • Higher resolution for photos
  • A native guestbook feature
  • A syntax highlighting theme editor
  • A polls feature
  • An option to publish posts via email
  • Optional AI help for proofreading drafts
  • Basic built-in (optional) analytics
  • Support for embedding streaming services, etc. without plug-ins
  • A page listing Premium members

Many thanks for providing a great platform! 🤩

@jasraj The help pages are a little out of date, but I’m working on updating them today, including this main help page with some highlights about Micro.blog Premium. Thanks!

@birming Thanks! For email, how would that be different than our email newsletter feature?

@manton I was thinking being able to create blog posts by emailing to a “secret address”.

@birming Oh! Gotcha. Yeah, we can add that.

@manton Cool! One feature I’d personally love to have is an option, when posting, to publish only to the timeline and cross-post — without creating a blog post.

@birming The timeline and blog are very intertwined because we want people to post to their blog. But I could eventually see an option like this based off of our notes feature.

@manton That would be amazing! I think it would be great when sharing something short, like an interesting article or a ”Finished reading” post.

@birming would it bother you if it was on your blog but somehow filtered out of the archives or maybe even the main page? I have sometimes thought about having short posts just get put somewhere else. My quicker fix for right now and you could do the same if you have Premium is create another site for just short posts. I will say I am rethinking how I have done that but it is always an option.

@ericmwalk I think it would since they still pop up in RSS etc. I would love more control over what ends up on the blog and not. I actually just tried using two blogs, but I felt it got messy right away.

@ericmwalk @birming Two blogs is easiest, although technically it is possible to use a special category and then exclude that category from the home page or RSS feed. Requires fiddling with custom templates, though. There are also themes like Bayou that put short posts out of the way by default.

@manton I wish there is a Family subscription that allows one to pay $100 for 2 (or 3) distinct multi-user (up to 5 users?) blogs with standard Mb subscription features.

Personally, I downgraded back to standard because I don’t use the add-on features - the standard one feature set is plenty! :)

@rom I wish we could offer that, but I think it might be too complicated to manage. Maybe instead there could be a way to link payment for accounts so one person could be billed.

@manton most likely I will, just a matter of getting the tumblr blogs I want to move here.

@manton Yeah, figured that it is a bit complex and not worth the effort. :) Is there a way to add limited multi-user support for standard subs (+US$10/year perhaps)? Maybe this is simpler to implement. :) I’d get another account and share with family members, if this is available. haha.

@t3mujin Cool, let us know if you have any questions. Our Tumblr import should be able to import your posts.

@rom I think it’s simpler for us to have the separate Family $15/month subscription. But yeah, it bumps you to Premium even if you don’t need it. Hmm, will think about that.

@manton @ericmwalk I tried it now with status.birming.com, but I think it will be too confusing for me in the long run 😅 Also, I noticed that it causes duplicate entries on my MB timeline. Maybe that’s the way it’s supposed to work when having several blogs? Update: It was probably becase I disabled ’.html’ after having posted.

@birming Following up on your list… I’m not sure why I never considered higher resolution photos for Premium. That makes a lot of sense. I think our default scaling is “good enough”, but there should be an option for full resolution for people who really want it. Less compression, etc.

@manton Sounds great! I don’t know what the maximum length/size for videos are, but perhaps that could be another benefit for Premium users.

@birming @manton yeah it does get a little confusing depending on how you choose to publish to the blogs as well. Then there is pictures that is another little wrinkle. I used my two one being more of a status like yours is so it was text I didn’t want on my main feed and I posted there via a shortcut to mastodon (which then pulled the feed into my status type blog). As I said the only thing that threw me off is if you wanted to post a picture it might get stored then in your main site or if you specifically change sites and post it to the status one then you will want to remember to change it back or for me I like having them all in the same spot. 🤷‍♂️
