Blog identity crisis — again: birming.com
@jasonekratz Thanks for your reply, Jason! I’ve been thinking about that too — and I like the idea. It’s just that I think it will get too much with replies and Fediverse following on two different blogs. That’s why I’m thinking maybe it’s best to have longer posts on a different platform with no comments feature or auto-sharing, and instead share those blog posts as ”link posts” to my MB account. I’m probably overthinking things, as usual 😅
@jasonekratz Always good to know you’re not alone 😊
@birming I’m sure many of us have been through this struggle. I decided to stop overthinking it and just have everything in micro.blog. But we each have our own trade offs
@dhester That sounds exactly like me! And now that you mention it, using another platform for my longer posts will most likely change absolutely nothing 😊 Still, in the midst of this struggle, it’s comforting to know I’m not alone.
@birming I have sat with this same conundrum, Robert. I know that some people split posts and I can see value in that, both for the look of the blog and for those who might read my content. So far I have not moved on this, in part because of time and in part because I don’t know what I want the finished product to look like.
One thing I have done is to set some categories for some of my posts. Not all of my posts fit into these categories some of which I have as individual menu items. Micro.blog allows the following of those menu items via RSS if users want to give the rest a miss.
@crossingthethreshold Thank you for your thoughts on this, David. Much appreciated! I will give it some more time before I try anything drastic. Today feels much better than yesterday, actually 😊
@birming Just to clarify on the fediverse support: when you use Micro.blog Premium and create additional blogs, those extra blogs do not need to be tied to your fediverse profile. They can just be separate blogs. They don’t even need to be connected to the Micro.blog timeline at all.
@birming Honestly I would think about it too hard…but if I was thinking about subscribers then I would make my Category Articles RSS more visible for anyone to subscribe to. Just a thought.
