Apple may embrace JPEG XL, via Jade van Dörsten’s microblog. It feels better for XL to be the standard, because it’s backwards compatible and we can just call it JPEG, rather than using WebP or HEIC. Chrome is still a problem, though.

@manton Is it normal for WebP to not open in the browser, instead prompting for you to download? That happened recently and I didn't like it at all.
@SimonWoods Sounds like a bug. Was this served on Micro.blog? We might be missing the right content-type for the response.
@manton It's in this post on Thought Shrapnel. I was going to open the image in a new tab to do some inspecting, and wasn't sure if this was just how WebP worked.
@manton Is there an easy way to follow a site through Microblog when a link is mentioned as in the above post?
@billbennettnz I found his micro.blog account on his Subscribe page, though I was worried about what I would find there
@billbennettnz Not really, unless the blog already links to their Micro.blog profile. I’d like to explore making it easier. In some cases you can search for the domain name and that’ll work.
@manton This is the kind of friction reducing functionality the Fediverse has talked about for ages, but isn't happening, presumably because is is hard to implement.
