In other Slack news this week, they moved their blog from Medium to their own domain name, powered by WordPress VIP. Because they had medium.com URLs before, none of their old posts redirect. At least they’ve got things future-proof now.

@manton the kind of manual work they'll need to do to fix that is exactly why I now only consider blog based software for the central location of my projects.

@manton Wow, this is a big(ish) move. I'm getting more and more nervous about Medium, seeing how many large companies and publications are moving away from it. Makes services like Micro.blog look more and more attractive.

@manton woah that’s a bad migration. Medium looked good and went wrong. I paid for it for a while but it wasn’t worth it or working for me.

@vivianlee Agreed. Medium had a lot of potential, but they seem to have kind of lost their way.

@manton @dominikhoecht @vivianlee @simonwoods @jdsimcoe @adamprocter I’d expect the plannned changes — domain names, greater customization, and a shift of emphasis from recommendation to following — to improve the experience. I hope they will, anyway.

@artkavanagh The language in the post is much more telling than any of the stated actions. Unfortunately most people wouldn't even know to look for it, let alone trip up on the word brandability. Seriously... I feel like I want to vomit.

@simonwoods You have a point, Simon. I didn’t even notice “brandability”, I’m sorry to say. Possibly a case of seeing what I’d hoped to see, rather than what’s there. I’m unlikely to resume regular posting on Medium anyway, now that I’ve got my own site and domain name.

@artkavanagh I'm not opposed to what they do in totality. I just like to keep a grasp on who is behaving with what degree of transparency, and yes, am also happier with my own domain away from the big platform-based hosting options.
