We’re still growing, but like any paid service, sometimes people cancel their Micro.blog hosting. Nearly everyone who cancels leaves a comment that they love and want to support the platform. Almost wish they’d say they hated it so that I’d have something to act on.

@manton given they love the platform (as they should 😄), is there a pattern of why people decide to leave?

@markavey Probably the most common reasons are along the lines of "don't use it enough right now" or "using it but also have a blog somewhere else".

@manton the product and support are amazing. there are still room for improvements, but I'm sure you are working on it already. ;) dark mode would be nice, too. haha

@manton Perhaps its a marketing issue? Having worked in social media companies before; I believe many don't truly understand what they give up by using one of the big platforms nor how much they are worth to them (as the user is the product in advertising supported platforms). It might even be worth keeping those users that intend on cancelling but just absorbing the cost?

@rom Thanks! Dark mode for the web version of Micro.blog, right? (We have it in the iOS and macOS apps, with some limitations.)

@prologic Maybe. We do offer people a small discount to stick around, but we should experiment with doing more.

@manton For example @hailshamkid recently came back to the Micro.blog community (obviously left it or something); worth reaching out and finding out more? :) See for me I would likely never leave unless there was an option to self-host with my own server/software (as mentioned in the Github Issue); However having said that I would absolutely continue to support Micro.blog and am in a position where I would donate money just to keep you guys going (I do for Wikipedia every year for example).

@manton Yes, I’m one of those who already has a blog with a decade of tagged posts, so blogging in two different places doesn’t make a ton of sense for me – and it’s frustrating just to have to decide which place to put something. And yet the frictionless posting here at micro.blog is great in many situations, especially for photos. So I’m not giving up!

@manton Maybe it could help if there was a link to provide feedback but with added information for better context? For example, between GitHub, Slack, and blog posts people have made feature requests but there is currently no way -- at least, publicly -- to see the weight of these issues.

@ayjay Thank you! I "solved" this by just moving everything to Micro.blog, but I know that doesn't work for everyone. We should probably explore what more we can do to make separate blogs feel more integrated.

@hailshamkid Thanks for sharing that! That's a good idea to follow up. We've experimented with that in a limited way (offering a discount to resubscribe) but I'm not sure we've framed it as well as you have in your reply.
