My first outdoor bike ride of 2023. [Strava link]. The temperature was at freezing point but without any wind, it had no bite. The water in Niantic river was so still, this dock and the posts look as if they are floating in air.

@Parag when I lived in NYC and biked a lot, I loved riding in the winter. First 15 minutes can be tough. Until your body gets warmth to the fingertips. Then it’s a beautiful thing.

@Parag The 'floating on air' dock — could be in a sci-fi.

@Parag it does look like the surface of a mirror. I’m waiting for much warmer (and dryer) weather before I take the bike out.

@mbkriegh Yeah! Winter riding feels different. I am usually trying to keep a constant effort so I can comfortably reach my destination. No all out efforts like summer time. Although, I have enough cold weather gear to keep me warm, my toes got really cold yesterday. I should put on one more pair of socks next time or use the foot warmers.

@Miraz I have many bodies of water nearby. I really like these reflections on windless days and am always looking for them.

@khurtwilliams we have had warmer temperatures this year but a lot of rain. Yesterday it was finally dry when I decided to venture out.

@Parag Beautiful image! Winter riding can be a challenge but I find it's usually worth it!

@Denny Thanks! Winter riding is definitely worth putting in all the effort to dress up. My lower limit is about 25F. If it is colder than that I don't go out.

@Parag I don't know about Connecticut, but in New Jersey, we usually get a lot of snow in January. The month is almost over, and not even a dusting of snow. It's rained a few times, but I think we're entering a period of drought. It's still cold. -1ºC this morning and cloudy.

@khurtwilliams Same here in CT. Usually lots of snow in Jan and Feb even along the coastline where I live. We are finally getting some snow today on the last day of January. We also have many days with high temps below freezing. None of those this year yet. Expecting Friday/Saturday to be that cold. So, no outdoor biking for me this coming weekend. :)
