If you’re not on Micro.blog Premium, you might not know that Micro.blog has a read-later bookmark interface with highlights. Helps when blogging and quoting. I updated the Dark Mode interface for it today, switching to an orange-ish highlight instead of the murky yellow before.

@manton I don't think there a, um, bookmarking bookmarklet? If I had such a thing I could use this as an alternative to Instapaper.

@manton This looks really great Manton! 😍 I think you should be in charge of dark mode now 😃

@ayjay There is a bookmarklet now... See this post for a link you can drag to your browser favorites bar. I've been moving from Instapaper too and expect will continue to improve it so that it's a good alternative — streamlined compared to Instapaper, but should have all the basics.

@manton Outstanding! I'll use this all the time.

@manton I keep forgetting about this feature :)

@ayjay There is an iOS option in the Share Sheet too. I forget where I got it from. Manton can add it to the documentation in the post he sent you if someone remembers.

@manton I like how this looks. Easy on the eyes with enough contrast.

@manton I just upgraded to try this and it's great. It means I can cancel another service I don't use very often. How long are articles kept for?

@manton app idea, micro bookmarks, i’m sure there can be a better name but, you get the idea 😁

@Gaby That would be fun but we really need to focus on the apps we have and not make more! 🙂 I think we can do more with the Bookmarks section of the iOS/Android apps. Or a third-party could do something bookmark-specific.

@manton true, or maybe i just need to remember it's there and start using it more. I forget i can bookmark things outside of Micro.blog. Like my muscle memory instantly goes to instapaper or something

@manton This is a feature that I underuse in Micro.blog. Now I am reminded that I have the bookmarklet in my favorites bar! 🤦‍♂️

@crossingthethreshold @manton I’ve been using bookmarks here a lot more lately and I love it. Great for a read later queue in addition to marking posts for followup.

@pratik Any other details on how to add to the iOS Share Sheet? This is something keeping me from using this cool feature more often.

@pratik @ayjay I found the iOS option - in Micro.blog iOD app go to Settings > "When sharing URLs from other apps" and select "Save as a bookmark"

@jfunk You have to first set up a new app token on Micro.blog and then run this Shortcut

@manton I love that the micro.blog iOS app can be configured to save Bookmarks instead of creating a new post, and that there's a bookmarklet too now for use on the Desktop. Is there also an RSS feed of my bookmarks so I can browse and read them via a RSS reader?

@uncertainquark There is! If you go into your Micro.blog Account settings on the web interface and Edit Feeds & Cross-posting the link to your bookmarks feed is near the bottom of the page in

Saved bookmarks go in your unique read later feed

afaik it's JSON only though.

@thedimpause Wow, thank you! JSON works too. I looked for the Bookmarks feed all over micro.blog, including Help Pages and on @manton's blog. It never occured to me to look in Edit Feeds & Cross-posting because this is a consumption thing not a creation one! Perhaps it would be obvious if the feed is exposed in the Bookmarks page itself.

@uncertainquark Agreed, it's not in an obvious place! One other minor irritation I have with the feed is that it actually contains 2 items per bookmark - an item for the bookmarked article itself plus an item for the archived version of the article. I’d find it more useful to have these split into 2 separate feeds … any chance @manton ? 😀

@thedimpause @uncertainquark Interesting idea... It's possible. Also, wonder where would be a more obvious place for the feed link? I thought about putting it on the Bookmarks page too.

@manton Yes, I'd also say on the Bookmarks page itself (at the top, alongside the highlights link possibly?) - that's the first place I look when I'm trying to find it :)

@manton Second @thedimpause's idea of having separate feeds for the bookmarked articles and their archived versions. And yep, the Bookmarks page is also where I'd look first for the feed link.

@uncertainquark @manton @thedimpause Count me in for this change as well. Never knew there was a feed. And yup, separate feeds would be great for bookmarked and archived versions.

@manton So I realize I’m a little late to this conversation, but it seems like a decent place to mention that I can’t add the bookmarks feed to a FreshRSS or a Feedly account in NetNewsWire, Reeder or Unread, or get it to work with IFTTT, but it works fine in NetNewsWire via iCloud sync.

@joeross Thanks, the bookmarks feed is in JSON Feed format. I wonder if FreshRSS and Feedly don't support it? I thought for sure Feedly at least did. We could add an RSS version if it's a problem.

@manton I noticed the IFTTT incompatibility because I’m trying to replace all my Instapaper workflows with MB bookmarking, then I tested in NNW to see if it was just an IFTTT thing. Of course, I probably shouldn’t be so dependent on IFTTT, but I would love an RSS option.
