My year-end MB goal: follow 100 users. Current count: 79 users

How many people I follow is such a better metric to think about than how many people follow me. It shouldn’t be hard for me to add 21 followees (?). Maybe there should be badges for following people //@macgenie

@ronguest @manton is the Keeper Of The Badges. I like the idea of a following badge. As for finding more people, we try to keep Discover well-stocked with new voices as well as posts from long-time community members.

@macgenie @ronguest @manton I worry a bit about gamification of following (and, generally, making a Timeline too busy/overwhelming) by encouraging it too much, but I do like the idea of encouraging (especially new-to-M.b) people to follow others, because you don’t get as much value from Micro.blog if you don’t follow/interact with others here.

So perhaps a pin for the first time a person follows someone (beyond the default follows; just like first post) and then for following 5 or 10 or maybe even 20 people?

@smokey @manton @macgenie I too am not in favor of much gamification. In fact in some forms it has discouraged me from posting rather than encouraged. But I think following people is at least as important as posting for a healthy community so I would like it encouraged/recognized early on.

@vasta Thank you - my timeline has been delightful and I look forward to growing it (while still managing volume as I tend to “shut down” if there is too much flying by).
