@manton Wow, that's a huge improvement!
It's looking like it could become the way to do photoblogging. A true Instagram alternative, and competitor.
@manton Looks great! I am still loving my micro.blog experience and I'm excited to see the ways this service continues to mature while keeping the independent spirit that drew us all here in the first place! 💥 🎉
@manton This new version looks like it will be a huge step. And I’m sure it gives you more talk about in Portland. 😀
@manton App looks amazing so great work! Just a quick question, are there plans to upgrade how these images are presented on our sites? Is the intention to create a new /photos default page (like the about page) that presents only the photos?
@manton I realize this is a fringe usecase, but do you know if images are downloaded lazily as you scroll the timeline? Was looking forward to using Sunlit as a low-bandwidth uploader to Micro.blog on an upcoming trip with a metered connection but if a dozen pics or so get loaded every time I launch the app, I may have to reconsider…
@manton Very cool! I’ve been enjoying poking around Sunlit beta. I think the only thing I’ve run into (not sure of the solution) is I end up seeing duplicate content across micro.blog and Sunlit. It’s like micro.blog needs a “no photos” timeline for people that use Sunlit for their photo timeline
@EddieHinkle We're not attempting to solve that for the first version, but it probably should be expanded so that your Sunlit timeline and Micro.blog timeline can diverge (maybe even different people in some cases). We'll be listening to what people think.
@sakurina It shouldn't load the photo until you scroll to it in the timeline. @cheesemaker might be able to better answer if there are any edge cases for pre-caching.
@manton so, FYI, Sunlit beta crashes for me on the timeline view. iOS 12 beta 2, though. May be related to the fact that I have a self hosted main site and a M.b hosted podcast site. 🤷🏻♂️
@cleverdevil That should work, but try signing out of everything if you haven't yet. I think there are some cases where settings aren't reset properly for the new version.
@manton so I tried that, and it made the Discover tab work, but the timeline view still triggers a crash.
@cleverdevil @manton hmm. I will take a look at the crash logs and the users you are following. We do a bit of parsing on the client to try and figure out how large images are etc so my guess is that you’re following someone who has a custom rolled blog that’s breaking the parsing.
@cleverdevil @manton yep. That was it. Very sorry. It will be fixed in the next build. Not much you can do to workaround at the moment either unless you want to unfollow @aaronpk. 😞
@cheesemaker no worries at all! This is the point of betas 😀 The app looks amazing, looking forward to the official release.
@cheesemaker hahaha 😆😆 I love that it was @aaronpk of all people
@cheesemaker ... and I can confirm that unfollowing him solves the Sunlit crash for me 😉 He will be back!
@cheesemaker Hold that thought! It did initially fix the crash, but now it’s started happening again 🤔
@TheDimPause heh. I can’t promise there aren’t other people you follow with similarly problematic content in their posts. I’m hoping we can get a new beta out shortly since this is a pretty terrible bug.
@aaronpk it wasn’t anything you did. It’s just a bug in the Sunlit parser. Your post just happened to be a source of data that causes it to choke for @cleverdevil. We need to put out a new beta ASAP to fix it.
@cheesemaker @manton good news, the latest Sunlit build no longer crashes for me! Bad news is it pretty much just shows me a blank screen for Timeline and no navigation at all.
