The iPhone SE isn’t for me… Love my X and will likely get the 11 Pro before the 12 comes out. But I could see the SE appealing to folks who want a less expensive upgrade or a return to Touch ID. 😷

@manton Smaller is key for me, though still a bit bigger than I’d like.

@manton It’s now just a cheap option, rather than unique because of its size. I guess at this point it makes the most sense to use the Watch as the replacement for a smaller screen device. I’d rather buy a phone once every 4 years, and the Watch more often than that.

@joost Smaller used to be really important to me — I loved the original SE — but now I'm pretty comfortable with the X size. Wouldn't want anything bigger, though, so no XR/11 or Max.

@simonwoods That's interesting, because I still have the original Apple Watch, so at this point I'm upgrading my phone more often (but not yearly).

@simonwoods @manton If Apple upgraded the internals, I’d get it as my next phone. I still have an 8 because I can one-hand it and can’t with the new all screen ones.

@manton @simonwoods Ah, they just upgraded it and that’s why you are talking about it. 🤦‍♂️

@Bruce @manton lol yep, I’ll take all the distracting shallow news I can get.

Generally, I’m in a bit of a transition with my tech so I guess my POV could change in the next few weeks. Currently feeling an urge to become lighter, more mobile, and flexible overall.

@manton Looks like a good option especially as my wife needs to migrate from iPhone 6S but based on the fact I have an X (which I love) but will go for 12 Pro when released (all being well) I think we will just wait for hand me down cycle to kick back into action 👍

@manton XS for me and no plans to upgrade this year.

@manton Had I known this was coming, I would have waited for it to keep Touch ID. Face ID was already annoying half the time - the magic half not worth failure rate compared to steady state with touch id.

Now, add in masks and glasses/no-glasses/sun-glasses... it's almost never working.

@SciPhi For me, the trade-off of giving up the screen going to the bottom edge isn't worth it, but I get the appeal. I wonder if masks have caused Apple to question their strategy.

@manton almost never is definitely an exaggeration borne of recall bias when it fails (it worked just now) so their metrics probably grade better than it ::feels::

@manton I have an iPhone 6 at the moment that I wanted to upgrade to a 11. The SE specs and price makes me doubt whether I really need the extra features of the 11.

@DrKnittyGritty The new SE would make an excellent upgrade to the 6. I think that's the biggest target market for Apple: anyone who has a 6/7/8 and wants "the same thing but way better".
