I’m still shaking. This M6.1 quake started with a really loud noise followed by enough shaking to get me out of the house. No damage though. 〰️

@Miraz Oh wow. I’m glad to know you’re ok. Holding a thought for you and everyone there. I just heard about it from my sister too.

@jean Surprisingly nothing even fell off a shelf. I guess your sister must be ok too. Wait! Isn’t she in Hawkes Bay? Not flooded out I hope…

@Miraz Glad that you are OK. I have never felt a big quake but, it must be very unsettling. Hope there aren’t any aftershocks.

@Parag 10 hours later and no aftershocks I’m aware of. Small quakes don’t bother me, but that was a very good shake. I got out of the house pretty quickly (a couple of metres to the open door, and nothing worth hiding under).

@pimoore Thanks. I heard one tiny item fall off a shelf somewhere but was very surpised things didn’t fall.

@cheribaker Yes, our year does seem to have started rather powerfully. Election year too, so from here on out things also get very blamey. I’m sure in a couple of months the opposition will be busy telling the government that they’ve handled all of this very poorly and that heaps of the consequent problems are because they governed badly over the last 6 years.

@gregmoore @Munish @pratik Thanks for that. I’m very used to the M4 and M5 shakes we get but M6.1 is a whole other category. Plus that one was just off the coast from where we are, so pretty close.

@jayeless We just had a wee shake. All those folks up north and east of here though are having a terrible time.

@Miraz No electricity, but otherwise ok. Some bridges are washed out.

I have to laugh at myself to send out a request for Kiwi marketing help as the cyclone was about to land. I was not paying attention to the world beyond my little circle of cares.

@Miraz only just seeing this post - and I am tracking NZ weather / news as closely as I can. Hadn’t picked up any news about an earthquake - probably submerged by Gisborne and Hawkes Bay news I am guessing. Glad you are ok.

@JohnPhilpin Yup. I guess those of us who missed out on the whole cyclone thing had to have something else to remind us that things can change in a moment. I’m not aware of the quake causing any damage though.
