@tones @yorrike agreed. And PM has made a point of saying she wonāt leave him stateless. But he seems pretty clueless; if you want the govt to help you at least surely should appear like youāre going to make nice when you get home. But āIn the latest interview, he showed no remorse for calling for ANZAC day-linked attacks, nor for IS murders of western hostages - and continued to defend the idea of slavery.ā Blegh.
@herself @tones And he says he wants to start a medicinal cannabis company when he gets back to NZ. Like he's going to walk off the plane in Auckland, breeze through customs and catch a cab.
The guy seems to have some mental health issues, so Iām don't want to give him too much grief. If he does make it back here, I hope he gets the help he needs while he's serving whatever prison sentence he gets for joining a foreign terrorist organisation.
@herself This is one of those things that cause me to tilt my head sideways for a moment and then say āHuh?!?ā
@yorrike @herself @tones Which leads me to wonder if it is illegal here in NZ to join an overseas terrorist organisation? What about hate speech if you do it overseas? Or inciting riots or whatnot? I have no idea of the law and how things apply here. I don't suppose we have any Kiwi lawyers around hereā¦
@herself There seems to be a set of people who really donāt see real consequences for their actions. Itās like other believe they can have a do-over for every thing they do.
@ronguest like the two doofuses who were just arrested here for starting some very large forest fires in the Nelson area. (Idiots!!) What on earth could they have been thinking? They displaced people, endangered houses, pets... Seems we have a lot of stoopid in the news over here today.
@tones so true. I guess itās easy to mock him a bit because he looks pretty awkward and fish-out-of-water, but at the end of the day he put his lot in with an awful group, and rather than being allowed to just run home when it gets a bit hairy, he needs to be called out on it. That said, there are some convincing arguments for bringing people like him back to āre-conditionā and potentially use to educate anyone else who might be potentially groomed in future. Who knows how something like that might play out though. I saw Homeland too ;)
@tones @herself Iām not saying he shouldnāt be punished to the full extent of the law for enabling, and being one of, those monstrous psychopaths. His family even say heās dangerous, donāt want him back in NZ and ādeserves to rot in jailā. I just hope he gets the mental health care he needs.
