Just realizing how much micro.blog (and by extension my friends in the Mastodon Fediverse) is “social media” while Twitter is mostly “attention (seeking) media”.

@pratik @yatil Pratik I think it was you that coined Micro.blog as a blogging/RSS platform with a community aspect? That really stuck with me, and I agree that I’ve never viewed MB as social media.

@pimoore @pratik I think we have redefined “social media” to mean “attention media” because it was that for a long time. But when Twitter and its precursors started, they were already social media but felt much more like micro.blog. Early Twitter even had RSS feeds.

@pimoore @yatil Yup, I still think network/community works better than medium/media. Except now Social Network will always be associated with that movie, admittedly a good one.
