Because of the way that I use RSS and social media applications, I rarely open a browser and just browse. What are the sites you head to directly in your browser every day?
@jsonbecker the only one i really actively type in the url box is ground.news everything else is from RSS, mastodon/bsky posts, or a kagi search.
@jsonbecker Kottke, Techmeme, Verge, Kevin Drum, and a couple of Indian news sites that flood their RSS with crap. I prefer RSS for low-frequency sites. Otherwise it gets overwhelming
@jsonbecker Two dozen URLs on social sites, including the micro.blog feed, replies, and Discover URLs. Plus a half-dozen news sites and, on workdays, another half-dozen tech news sites.
@chipotle yeah, that’s a habit I won’t break, but I am mostly no longer reading the comments at least.
@pratik I should read Kottke more. Drum is in my RSS. The Verge is one of the few homepages I do go to. I never built a Techmeme habit.
@jsonbecker I've been trying to force myself to go directly to websites more often. Anything that isn't "can't miss" (which is mostly personal blogs these days) I go directly through the browser. I still try to open those personal blogs in a browser too since most people put a lot of work into making them look nice and it's always a delight to read there.
@humdrum @jsonbecker I’ve been trying out NewsBlur. It allows you to view posts in their original design. You can apply the setting for all sites or some sites. But the service has a Web 1.0 feel to it.
@humdrum I’m not especially concerned about that. I prefer RSS for easy, fast, and high readability. Most sites like that give me a reason to click through, at least some of the time. I do think there are some RSS readers that let you default to loading the page.
