My Apple Watch battery is shitting the bed. I really like fitness and sleep tracking (and Apple Pay), but I’m less sure I’m getting anything “else” out of it. I’m so tired of the design. What are my options these days?

@jsonbecker WHOOP seems like a good device for tracking fitness and sleep. Can't justify having that along with a properly functioning Apple Watch. Maybe, next time I'll get that instead of replacing the watch.

@Parag I'm not really into the idea of a monthly/annual fee for this kind of thing.

@jsonbecker Oura ring. They did get some recent blowback on making some features behind a subscription paywall but coaches at my gym swear by it. Pls looks nice and battery lasts a week apparently.

@jsonbecker there's definitely a lot of love for the Oura ring. I found this recent article by Michael Easter interesting though: www.twopct.com/p/the-tru...

@jsonbecker Do you mean options other than an Apple Watch?

Really loving my Garmin forerunner, which is just smart enough for me. Does fitness, sleep, alerts from phone, and touchless pay.

@jsonbecker But, there is no upfront cost for the device. It is spread out in monthly fee. It is 12 or one dozen at the end.

@jsonbecker I personally have no issue with the Apple Watch in terms of design or function. But... a simple band of some sort that played nice with my phone or maybe something like the Oura ring could peak my curiosity once my current Watch runs its course. That might get me more into mechanical watches.

@jsonbecker Many would consider it a step backwards but if you want basic fitness and sleep tracking, Garmin’s Forerunner series of watches do an excellent job of both. I have their cheapest one and it has great GPS tracking for runs/walks, gives me sleep metrics, and lasts more than a week on a charge.

@jsonbecker I think the latest watchOS really destroyed a lot of utility. Like you, Apple Pay is my most used feature now. I'm still rocking a Series 6, and don't want to upgrade given the current software stack.

@canion software changes haven’t impacted me much. I think it’s just that it’s got utility, but not a ton, and to wear it constantly for this long with no change is fatiguing.
