The Unforgettable Fire is U2’s best album and this is a hill I will defend until my death.

@patrickrhone Joshua Tree. Although I might be biased a bit because my name is Joshua. Lol

@patrickrhone It's a good one, as is Joshua Tree, but Achtung Baby remains my favorite of theirs. There's no accounting for taste, though, and different people can like different things 😁

@joshuapsteele Yep. Subtract 2 for bias and The Unforgettable Fire wins! See? Easy. :-)

@petebrown To me, Joshua Tree is a collection of radio friendly hit singles as opposed to a wholly realized work. But I do not wish to detract from it because it is a great collection.

But, I just love the complete vision of The Unforgettable Fire.

@patrickrhone We shouldn’t have favorites should we?

Still - going beyond the 'band on the stage' ... this one launched Messrs Lanois and Eno into the U2 'ecosphere' .... and there you have me. (Not to knock Kirsty's old man - who did the boys proud on their first three).

@patrickrhone I’m having trouble finding an argument against this. It really is an incredible album.

@danalcantara Zooropa is really underrated!

@JohnPhilpin One might be able to make a convincing argument that this is one of Lanois and Eno's best productions as well.

@manton It's just so satisfyingly complete. As if each song is meant to be right there and would seem incomplete with any removed.

@danalcantara Zooropa was good in an experimental way. Certainly reflects the spirit and conditions under which is was recorded.

@patrickrhone ooh .. you mean together not individually? And/or with U2 or ‘EVA’!

@JohnPhilpin I mean ever. Not that they don't have a stellar (one might say near perfect) track record together, apart, etc.

That said, I tend to smush together producing with mixing and mastering so perhaps my methodology for such considerations is flawed. Based on that my benchmark is this...

Does this album sound like it was released yesterday?

Boston's first album is the gold standard for this in my opinion. That album sounds as fresh and alive today as it did when it was first released. Almost unbelievable production quality (if you didn't know Tom Schultz's pedigree).

Feel similarly about The Unforgettable Fire.

@patrickrhone wow .. ok .. going to have to contemplate that a minute or two … I wonder how much our opinion is shaped by how much the love the artist/music to begin with?

Example .. I’m pretty convinced that I have never in my life listened to an entire Boston album … mainly cos they don’t do it for me .. #NoJudgement .. U2 is definitely on my play list .. but certainly not at the top … whereas Byrne with Eno ..oh my .. and for me … I came to early Bowie because of Eno and Low .. oh and with Fripp .. and Lanois with Gabriel ..

I am now going to put that Boston album on …

@patrickrhone and yes .. I am fully aware that streaming Boston is not going to give me much of an insight into Production quality 😜

@JohnPhilpin Hera the thing… That thing sounds fresh even streaming.

Don’t have to listen to the whole thing. The first few songs will give you an idea.

@JohnPhilpin Depeche Mode’s Violator is another that fits the bill but such things are easier with digital instruments.

@patrickrhone I'm so glad to find the the fellow Fire enthusiast. Your comment about the "complete vision" of that album is spot on.
