have you ever put on footwear that transformed your whole being when you walked in them?… a new pair of women’s boots i bought changes the way i walk and feel while walking… it’s magical-wonderful… this has never happened to me before…

@mbkriegh that’s awesome. I’m envious. Haven’t had that feeling yet. I recently learned that I have been wearing the wrong size for my entire adult life. Something I took to be so simple. was doing it wrong, and had to relearn how to properly size my feet. So I’m still learning.

@mbkriegh yes, yes, yes, yes, yes! However I’m sure your choices are more stylish. Mine are skewing toward (very wide) birks and crocs. Finally, though at my advanced age, I acknowledge that I’d rather have comfortable shoes over cute ones.

@velocykel yes, combat style boots, but refined, with 2” heels… they are incredibly comfortable, but they have attitude which transfers to me when i put them on… i walk with a kind of sexy confidence in them…

@ptrck i just realized that i am a size 12 in men’s shoes (14 women’s), not 11 1/2… my new shoes are much more comfortable…

@mbkriegh For me it was more boring, but no less life-affirming: custom, hand-made orthotics. It’s been a long time since I had any that good.

As far as boots go, in the 1980s army, we were allowed to wear German tanker boots while stationed in Germany. No laces, just a short strap and a longer wrap-around strap. Wider toe too. For me, it was a little bit of rebellion in uniform.

@mbkriegh I love that! Funny how a piece of clothing (or shoes) can have that effect. Over the summer, I heard a podcast that explored the history of high heels as they evolved from from cowboy boots… it was very cool (and always makes me think that cowboys are unknowingly wearing high heels.)

@velocykel i definitely thought about the cowboy boot angle when i realized what my boots were doing for me… i imagine a little extra height and swagger was useful back in the cowboy era…

@mbkriegh it’s funny, when I was a little kid I always wanted to dress like Mrs. Roper, and the later like Andy Warhol. Now I think I’m vaguely asexual which has been a blast in that I feel free to wear whatever feels like me! I agree with you, clothing can be powerful!
