@smokey nice post. i still have have this issue though: having chosen m.b as my only blogging platform, there doesn’t appear to be any way to have some of my posts go just to my m.b-hosted blog and not into my timeline. if anyone can help me with this i’d be most grateful.
@tones There's no setting or switch of any kind but you should be able to use categories for that. For example, you set up all of the posts for your timeline to be "Micro":
tones.micro.blog/categories/micro/feed.xml
->Account
-> Edit Feeds & Cross-posting
->tones.micro.blog/feed.json
->To do this you'd need to make sure you're using the official apps with categories support or any third-party app that includes category support. Although, you can also edit your posts on the web or in the Mac app to give them categories after the fact.
@simonwoods thanks simon! seems to work.
@simonwoods @tones I thought that was probably possible. Thanks, Simon, for providing the actual steps instead of the theorizing I offered last night, and tones for verifying it does work. (I assume TIL will offer up a formal Tip post soon?)
@Miraz Thanks. I’m not sure it’s so much “my wisdom” as the wisdom of the Micro.blog community filtered through my brain—we have a lot of people who write about being intentional in doing X here, so I just mixed what I’d learned of that ethos with @Cheri’s and @EddieHinkle’s recent well-put comments :-)
@tones @simonwoods That’s odd…photos should be just like any other post…? Are you saying they post to the Timeline even without having the post-to-timeline category set?
@smokey no, when i send pic posts to the timeline with the category, the pics don’t go through.
@tones @simonwoods Really bizarre. At first I thought it might have been the relative-URL thing I found on Khaled’s site, but if that were the case, photos never would have shown up at all from hosted blogs, so that’s not it…. (Simon, if you don’t find a smoking gun when you test, ping me and I’ll take a look at your tests, too. Eyes and shallow bugs and all that.)
