It’s a long time since I’ve read Revelations. Maybe it’s current news now.

@odd probably not...it's (IMO) about how to be faithful in the face of empire (Rome).

Sure, lessons to be learned, but not intended to be predictive.

@toddgrotenhuis That interpretation has completely gone over my head. I will read it again with this in mind.

@odd I can't claim any originality.

I've seen this view a few places, this one being the most accessible.

@odd @toddgrotenhuis I don't think I'd go as far as to say "not intended to be predictive" but I agree that it's primary purpose is an encouragement and reminder to be faithful today, not to worry and speculate about the end of the world. It starts as a letter to a group of specific churches in which they are encouraged to be faithful even with persecution.

@joshuapsteele @ChrisJWilson @toddgrotenhuis @odd My fav book on Revelation is this one from Michael Gorman. Not predictive. Rather, how to be faithful in a world where allegiance to empire is prized above all else.

@joshuapsteele I’ve been looking at this resource a long time ago, but not in Revelation.
