Maybe I’ll start a photo blog. I could use it to post highlights of photos I’ve taken or things I’ve learned?

I bought the domain collin.photo, which seems ideal for such a thing. I don’t know. I’m unclear if anyone reads blogs anymore outside of tech 🤷‍♂️

Are there any platforms particularly well suited for doing a photo blog?

Wordpress, obviously, but I’ve always felt that the maintenance and amount of work it takes to make something look halfway decent was a big turn off.

Maybe Micro.blog? I don’t really know if it has good support for that kind of thing, but if it does, that could work.

Of course, I could always throw together my own thing in Rails, and that would probably work fine and maybe wouldn’t be all that much work.

@collin What about @ghost or @pixelfed that can both be self-hosted? Or Flickr, which has an RSS feed.

@collin Is this the kind of thin people use … Pixelfed(?) for?

@bjoreman can it be used as a proper blog? Maybe I will have to look into that. I’d like to have some ability to customize the layout and all of that.

@blag @ghost @pixelfed Perhaps! The blog part of it is also important to me, so I would want whatever I chose to work well for long form writing.

@collin I love photo blogs. I see a lot of people creating new photo blogs on Micro.blog. If anything I would say they're more popular than ever because people want alternatives to Instagram that they can control.

@manton this is a little inspirational, I am thinking of doing one now. I see Sunlit hasn't had any updates in about a year. Is it still a thing? I figure it would be an easy way to make sure photoblog stuff ended up on the photoblog.

@timapple It’s still a thing but has been slow to update. We have a new version with a new icon that needs some final polish and release.
