Enjoyed the discussion on Hard Fork about the Australia social media ban for kids. In a nutshell: it’s a good experiment that we will actually have data for in several years. No parent says, “I wish my kid was on Instagram and TikTok more often.”

I came across a very critical piece on Techdirt, and I agree with certain aspects of it.

@thosch Interesting, thanks for the link. I need to read the details of the law, and I’m not surprised there are holes and critiques. But I also think something needs to be done, so maybe this is the start.

@manton wow they discusssed something other than AI? 😂 I’ll have to listen to the show. Masnick’s take on the whole thing is something for sure. He reminds me of the 2nd Amendment folks on this topic. I think it’s pretty clear that, with very few exceptions, social media is a cesspool and something the world never needed. Even my Gen Z kids (also now adults) generally think so. I’m all for the experiment. Wish we’d do it here in the US.

@jkratz Oh, don’t worry, they discussed AI a bunch on the episode too. 🙂
