@adamprocter The “build the stadium over time” model is common here in the States—or, at least this area—for both high schools and minor league sports teams.

In our county, when building a new high school, the county will build/pay for the field, a track around it, and basic bleachers on each side of the field (and maybe a basic press box). From then on, the football (and, to a lesser extent, soccer and other teams that use the “stadium”) booster clubs raise funds through booster club dues, tickets, concessions, special fundraisers (carwash!), etc. to build out the stadium. Depending on the socio-economic level of the school district, after 10 or so years, you can end up with a pretty nice stadium.

Similarly, our local (and pre-MLS) minor league soccer team started with a game-day field and some metal bleachers, and one or two grassy areas for practice. Over time, they built up the stadium and complex (to add additional practice/youth-and-amatuer league playing fields, including an artificial turf field so they could prepare for that for away games…), with plans for more, like a gym, pub, and such. Then, of course, the Great Recession hit and then MLS came to Atlanta and took most of the wind out of things, but they built slowly and deliberately and as revenue (or the owner’s pocketbook) permitted and didn’t go belly-up from construction.

Seems to me that a similar sort of model for your supporter-owned club is both eminiently reasonable and possible, as you propose—maybe your costs are higher, but I think the general model can still apply. 👍
