So far the app I think I miss the most on the Vision Pro — other than Callsheet — is NetNewsWire.

@caseyliss Same.
@caseyliss I can’t wait to hear you and Marco talk about it next week. Have you checked out the IMAX app yet?
@caseyliss Is there an API you can use for Callsheet to get the currently playing media? It would be pretty cool to get some popup to see more info or at least be able to open Callsheet and be prompted with what’s currently playing
@caseyliss If only somebody had suggested getting Callsheet on there for day one months ago ;)
@caseyliss with NetNewsWire being open source, can’t you enable it to run on visionOS, recompile and deploy?
@geoffDC No access to prod icloud, and even if I did, it’s a different team.
@caseyliss looks like it has some free IMAX films (like the documentaries)
@caseyliss I’ve seen a few people’s videos posted. Does it look that good from the wearer’s perspective?
@caseyliss My kid has the Meta Quest 3, and it’s fine for seeing your surroundings (and a massive step up from the original Quest), but reading a phone is basically impossible. At $3,500, it’s not for me, but I’m glad to see early adopters and developers doing cool things. I’m intrigued to see where things are in three years.
@caseyliss fair enough. I hadn’t read through there GitHub readme before now but I understand the limitations now
@caseyliss hard concur on both counts (pleeeeeease tell me CS is coming soon)
@caseyliss what’s up with that? Isn’t iPad app working? VPN support is there on the AVP
@melonamin I’m thinking @caseyliss intends more tweaking to make Callsheet special to Vision Pro. As an iOS user, I still haven’t any idea how he intends some greater interaction with video as one as watching, as a floating panel or widget.
@caseyliss is Tailscale on the store? I switched from Wireguard to Tailscale a while back and I've found it really good.
Being able to use my Apple TV as an exit node is great.
@Chancerubbage I think @melonamin was talking about WireGuard, but with respect to Callsheet, it’s not a new interaction model. It’s just that visionOS made plain some spots — often accessibility on iOS — that need considerable work.
Rising tide raises all Callsheet ships, but it’s embarrassingly bad right now.
@jte I believe it is. But my Tailscale setup is totally jacked. Gotta fix it.
@caseyliss Ah, I see. I checked only Tailscale, it is there and works. iOS WireGuard app is open source, so if you REALLY want it…
@melonamin Why is this so much goddamn work
@maddox tailscale’s auto-connect support was a royal pain in the ass last I looked.
@caseyliss @maddox Do you mean VPN on Demand? It’s better these days.
Even if you leave it disabled though, Tailscale has improved a lot since the last time you mentioned you looked into it on the show. Not that you need yet another person telling you to switch, buuuut….you should switch. 😄
@maddox @caseyliss as someone who is perfectly satisfied with their Wireguard setup, what is superior about tailscale? For an individual user, it seems to not offer many benefits over plain Wireguard
@caseyliss I have a shortcut that turns it on and off basted on leaving and coming home fwiw.
@miketaffet @caseyliss the sharing alone is amazing. Also you can embed it in software and not just a host.
@getchannels’s Server supports it out of the box. So you can add it but not the rest of the things on that host computer.
Overall Tailscale is just a productized Wireguard with a lot of features on top for humans and is more platform than software. It’s great.
@maddox @caseyliss @getchannels I can tell it isn’t for me because reading that I found myself saying “I don’t know what any of that means”
I just use wireguard to VPN into my home network so I can access file shares and use my PiHole for DNS blocking lol. I am a simple man with simple needs.
@caseyliss hoping to hear you talk about using this at your library in a giant spreadsheet or something 😆
@caseyliss it’s surprisingly works pretty well, auto VPN has always been a disaster
@maddox @caseyliss that seems highly unnecessary, unless I'm missing something? When you're on the same network, tailscale will direct connect you to device by design. just letting it do its thing is the way™
@chrishas35 Tailscale client is not friendly on battery life. I don't want it running if I don't need it.
@chrishas35 @maddox Further, I'd prefer it to automatically engage an exit node when I am not in my home network
@caseyliss @maddox I just noticed these setting (perhaps they’ve been there and I had not seen)
@chrishas35 @maddox Yeah, but what I want is slightly different: always-on Tailscale, but sometimes-on exit node.
