Quick video demo of a new feature to change the poster frame of a video you’ve uploaded. Testing with a Mickey Mouse short that will go into the public domain in 2026, the first appearance of Pluto, so I’m a few weeks early.

@manton really nice, i keep on meaning to pursue getting a dedicated video page together but it’s not the same as the photo pages setup so i need research that in the forums. definitely will test the 10-20 minutes for like a show/production thou and get the upgrade/sub for 2026.

@settee I manually made a Videos page for my blog just with a select few videos, but I think we need a plug-in that makes that mostly automatic, like the Photos page.

@manton i assumed because it’s a hosted solution and we don’t have access to frontmatter slugs and stuff we couldn’t do that but maybe i’m mistaken? i hit a wall there, i’d love to make a dedicated video theme for instance solely for video/live streaming if i have the ability to do so.

@settee There are a couple ways it could work. Videos are set in front matter as .Params.videos, so you can query all pages that have a video. I might combine that with categories if it was me. I think we need to add some more metadata for dimensions and whatnot, though.

@settee Oh, when I said manually I meant HTML that I maintain by hand without any Hugo code. It looks like this. Ideally this would be converted into a plug-in that works for most people.

@manton right on, looking forward to see how it progresses and i’ll look again at trying to build out a dedicated video page hopefully before the end of the month as i’d like to get back into doing video and host that on my blog as part of a much bigger video project in 2026.
