Good post by Paul Frazee on why Bluesky uses rich-text facets. Iâm not quite convinced â I think a subset of HTML is a more universal solution that scales from microblogging to feeds to the full web â but lots of respect for the thought Bluesky has put into this. Canât wait to do more with AT Proto.

@manton I would want to separate style from semantics and perhaps have both #markdown and facets.
Thereâs a difference between âI want this to be boldâ vs âThis is a hyperlink.â One expresses an authorâs intended or requested presentation while the other codifies meaning, leaving the readerâs client to Do The Right Thing for the clientâs situation.
In a way itâs what the author wants vs what the user needs.
And a natural benefit of this is not having to worry about straining markdown with new, semantic stuff like spoiler alerts.

@manton.org I get the impression that Bluesky has real potential for the development of an open, decentralized social network thatâs fun to use, well-equipped for more effective moderation, super-fast and even has a very pleasant interface.
