It’s annoying that seeing full reviews in Apple Maps requires you to have the Yelp app. I refuse to give in.

@chet Ditto. Worse, it didn’t always used to be that way, because I remember being able to read full reviews when I first got my iPhone. I guess that was Yelp’s pay-to-play demand.

@smokey I don't think it even adds that much value.

@chet @smokey I wonder if Apple considered partnering with Foursquare for reviews. That's still my favorite way of discovering new places. (Eventually I could see Apple hosting their own photos and reviews.)

@manton I’d like to see Apple step in too if they vet the establishments. Recent reports seem to show Google’s equivalent has a high quantity of false establishments (to say nothing of bogus reviews). I’ve found TripAdvisor to be a fairly good source of info on restaurants when I travel. Better than Yelp. I tend to forget Foursquare exists for some reason.

@ronguest I think just based on the number of devices that Apple could own this market if they chose to.

@manton I’m not even sure if the reviews add much value. My local McDonald’s gets 1.5 stars, but come on, I’m going to go anyway. I’d much rather they focus on improving things like store hours (including holiday changes), phone number, address, and website.
