For the first time in my adult life its February and I still haven’t made a vacation plan for the year and don’t even feel inclined to come up with one. I typically have an idea by the time we finish our last vacation. I have no idea why.

@ronguest Where do you normally travel or does it tend to vary?

@martinfeld Our kids are 10 and 14 and we always plan around activities to entertain/enrich them. Beaches, aquariums, museums, mountains, theme parks and so on. We often take two vacations a year so have kind of exhausted ideas.

@ronguest I will do my bit for the local tourism industry. Assuming you are looking at summer vacation.

@macgenie Well. Actually. I already had them send a bunch of info! A visit to Portland and the coast is on the short list for sure. Based on my prelim work it would be a lot cheaper than the Seattle area and have enough things to do.

@macgenie A looooong time ago the company I co-owned had a management consulting contract with Precision Castparts so we set up an apartment in the Lake Oswego area. Between long working hours and commuting to the area I didn’t have much free time but I do remember driving the Gorge. It was not summer... Still a striking place.

@ronguest I second @macgenie’s recommendation for Portland & Oregon Coast. We visited last year and had a great time. I blogged about it too.

@ronguest and since @macgenie is talking gorge if this kind of thing appeals - a friend of mine lives there and is responsible for putting this (not your usual) map (and many others) together - might be an interesting spin on your plans.

PS - [more on DigLife] - we have a massive revamp underway - $10 per year to join

@macgenie I can’t read/hear “Oregon”, without thinking about David Lynch and “Twin Peaks- Fire Walk with Me”… Not the best movie, but it still has some memorable scenes.
