In the future, our job as programmers will be nothing except reviewing auto-generated slop grenades. There won’t be time for new features, but all of our servers will be really secure. 🤪

@manton well, as an educator, we are training our Computer Science students to learn programming. The skill is important before even considering using vibe-coding. Otherwise, that future you mentioned will be the end of software, along with the end of the entire industry.

@rom I agree, learning programming is still important. Even if we don’t write as much code, we have to understand it, otherwise systems grow out of control and are too hard to debug.

@rom I should have clarified… My post was supposed to be a joke. There’s a version of the future where we just do whatever the robots tell us, but I certainly want to avoid that.

@manton Given how effective AI is already, the only white-collar job will be cyber security, which will require all humans, full-time, forever.

@manton hahah, that’s the thing - a lot of people believe that that is the future. Tech bros saying that Computer Science is dead, that their genAI models is the end of software development by humans.
