@manton Great for those you mentioned. Makes total sense. 📸 I’m not sure what I’m going to do with my Flickr account. Go Pro? I don’t take many pictures anymore. I don’t want everything from Micro.Blog to end up in Flickr, so maybe just keep them separated for now. A way to discern what goes to Flickr might work, but would probably complicate the UI(++).

@manton Great direction! But I suspect if every photo from my blog, and I presume of many others, starts going to Flickr, it will be spammy (for users on Flickr). Micro.blog already generates a special Photo page, and a plugin let’s us control which photos end up there, so I think it’d be better if micro.blog only posted those photos to Flickr.

@manton Giving Flickr another look, thanks to this.

@uncertainquark Good feedback, thanks. I worry about getting too fiddly with how it works, so I think this all-or-nothing is best for now. But I totally get that it might not work for everyone.

@manton If the final Photos page of a blog, after however people have set it up, has an RSS feed, then maybe that can be added as a source to crosspost from? This or a built-in understanding of which photos to post would not just be good for Flickr but also platforms like PixelFed and many others!

@manton I am so excited about this! Thank you.

@uncertainquark When you mentioned the plugin, I assume you mean Manton’s own photos category plugin? Given that, you can take the rss feed from the category you selected and choose to cross-post from that.

The only thing I’m unsure of here is if that would create duplicate entries in the Micro.blog timeline. My guess is that it would do exactly that but I haven’t tested that for a while.

@simonwoods @uncertainquark That will work but there is a catch: it won’t create duplicates, but it won’t be reliable if posts appear in more than 1 feed. So if you want a photos-only feed (with a category, for example) then those photos can’t appear in other feeds listed on your account. Confusing, I know!

@simonwoods Yes I meant Manton’s own category plugin.

@manton Oops! I now remember coming across that issue. So yeah, if a post appears in two feeds to be crossposted, it doesn’t post at all. Also, somewhere documented on help.micro.blog is also the fact that crossposting works reliably from JSON feed and not RSS. IIRC, Tumblr and Medium posts have issues using RSS.

@manton Great feature, Manton. Although as you said, I probably will not use it for now since I have a workaround via IFTTT which I admit hasn’t always been reliable. I use it only for my Photos Blog and not the regular micro blog so that way I can be selective. @uncertainquark, here’s my Flickr in case you were wondering

@pratik Haha, thanks. Having a separate photoblog definitely makes it easier to crosspost without any complex issues.

@uncertainquark Yeah but I use Flickr as a curated archive. Usually my DSLR pics and photoblog pics are posted there. My photos on my regular micrblog can be random and I don’t need to archive them; at least not on Flickr.

@pratik Makes sense, and also easier to browse for outsiders interested in your curated photos only.

@manton Late to the game on this but I very much appreciate the integration with Flickr and as you state, it will give me impetus to dust off my Flickr account. Thanks and props!

@manton Any plans to add crossposting to PixelFed? It seems very compatiable with Mastodon posts and Mastodon is already supported here on micro.blog.

@uncertainquark It’s not something I’ve looked into. PixelFed’s API is based on Mastodon, so I wonder if some of it already works.

@manton thanks for this! 👍 gives me an option.

I already have a couple of Shortcuts that pull image details from Flickr and post on Mb, so I’m good. As you have said, it requires me to upload to Flickr first (for full resolution and exif preservation, too). :)

@manton I just tried this but it doesn’t seem to work for some reason. I can confirm I have cross posting configured to my Flickr account. The photo I posted did cross post to Twitter and Fediverse just not to Flickr. How can I debug this? Thanks.
