Itโ€™s Micro Monday again. While the podcast is on hiatus, Iโ€™ve been doing a series of roll calls to help enthusiasts find each other. This weekโ€™s topic is running. If you run or jog for exercise or fun, take a moment to stop let others know in the comments. ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿป๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ

@jean I am one of those crazy runners that seems to be addicted to it... For good or bad ๐Ÿ˜. I once ran a 5k a day for 365 days.

@jean I run once in a while, to keep fit, mainly. ๐Ÿƒ

@jean I have been a regulr runner in the past, but parenting and lower back issues have made it hard over past few years. My goal is to ease back into things this summer! ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป

@jean The only running Iโ€™m doing these days, is programs. But I am working s-l-o-w-l-y towards changing that. But donโ€™t count me in yet. ๐Ÿ˜…

@jean I would like to do some running assuming my joints donโ€™t have other ideas, so Iโ€™ll watch this thread.

@spgreenhalgh parenting made it hard for me to get in a good rhythm of running once I started back up a while back. Took a lot more planning than I would have liked and just to figure out when to run ๐Ÿ˜. Hope you can get back into it this summer!

@jean I run with my dog these days, three or four times a week. We generally do 5km or so. ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿป

@ericmwalk wow, thatโ€™s a commitment! Good point about needing careful planning, thatโ€™s often the issue

@MindfulGrump Nice! Iโ€™m not sure if my dog is up for that level of activity, though it would be good to get her fitness up too

mroutley

@jean Iโ€™m trying to get back into it now. I ran my first (and only) marathon a few years ago. That required fairly consistent training and Iโ€™ve lost that momentum. Perhaps posting some runs here on micro.blog would keep me motivated

@mroutley It was serendipity really that got me into running with her, we rescued her and she just seemed to prefer running than walking. Iโ€™m not fast by any stretch of the imagination, but itโ€™s a great way to bond with your dog I find.

@MindfulGrump I once tried to keep up with my bengal cat once when he got off his leash. He sprinted 100 m in 6 to 7 s. The fastest human needs 9.9 s. I was completely outclassed with my 14 s. Luckily, he knew his way back home, as did I.

@renevanbelzen My dog almost killed me during one Parkrun, she got overexcited and took off like a demon. Sheโ€™s always tethered to me by a canicross harness and thank goodness sheโ€™s only a terrier, but I knocked two minutes off my best time that day.

@jean I run quite a bit (60-70 miles/week) and race from 1 mile to 100+ miles. This weekend I have my first race in 18 months! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

ericmwalk
ericmwalk

@sexyhermit that is some serious millage. What race do you have this weekend?

sexyhermit

@ericmwalk Bighorn 100 in Wyoming!

ericmwalk
ericmwalk

@sexyhermit nice! Have you done this one before? Also, good luck, it looks like it has quite a bit of elevation looking at the profile. However, this is from someone who runs around Minnesota ๐Ÿคฃ.

@ericmwalk I haven't done the race before, but I paced a friend for the last 52 miles a couple years ago, so I've seen the entire course. It will definitely be a different experience than my last two races, which were pancake flat.

@jean I run, typically two runs a weekโ€”a "long" run, that's been 5 or 6 miles lately, and then a "fast" run that's about 3 miles, and includes some short sprints along about the mid-point. ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

@sexyhermit how did the Bighorn 100 go this past weekend?

sexyhermit
sexyhermit

@ericmwalk it was extremely long and difficult, as expected. It wasnโ€™t entirely fun, but I did enjoy parts of it thoroughly. Iโ€™m certainly glad itโ€™s over!

@jean I run regularly. Itโ€™s good for heart and mind. But at the moment I have a bad knee so the distances arenโ€™t as long as the use to be. ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ

@jean Started running around three years ago, but just got semi-consistent about it last fall. Now running (extremely non-competitively!) the 10k at the Cleveland Marathon event this weekend.

@jean I've been on and off running for a couple years, am not in great shape now but really wanna get back on the horse! I ran my first 5k a month or so ago and I wanna keep the momentum going.

renevanbelzen

@jean Iโ€™m currently five months into training for a marathon end of October 2023, and will conclude base training on June 4. After that, itโ€™s five months training ever more specific for that marathon. The idea is to have more consistency in training and become an (ultra) marathon runner, aiming at an average of 80 km (50 mi) per week with the 80/20 training principle (80% slow, 20% intensive). ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ
