I forgot how fun manual transmissions were to drive. It had been 25+ years and I picked it up like it was yesterday. (My son now has an old Honda Civic.)

@manton having one used to help keep me awake on longer drives. You have to anticipate gear changes more ahead of turns and such. Sorely missed.

@Sylari Yeah, gotta pay more attention. Also impossible to text while driving!

@manton funny. I’ve had an automatic for a year now, and it is so much calmer in traffic. On quiet country roads I miss manual, but not much.

@manton I love it. Automatics are not so widespread here, and I miss shifting whenever I have to drive one 😊

@manton when transportation moves to anything vaguely electric*, there will be full torque from zero (and little shifting for the driver) / @jeremycherfas

(star) most hydrogen cars (FCEV) are electric vehicles with batteries

@manton Never liked driving a car with automatic. Always had manual.

But having a Nissan Leaf with “no transmission” is such a better experience. Can’t see me choosing anything else in the future.

@furstenberg I had a Leaf several years ago and loved it. Just leasing so had to give it up and we haven't been able to justify the price of a newer electric yet.

@manton The sales tax system in Norway is geared such that you pay a higher tax on how much emission a car has. That makes electric cars much cheaper than the comparable petrol car.

@cn My little hybrid certainly feels that way at slower speeds.

@manton at this point if I were going by preference I would strongly lean all-electric, but immediately after that would be a manual. I'm currently driving a hybrid '21 Accord and it's lovely in many ways… but has none of the driving delight of either all-electric or stick-shift.

@manton Currently learning to drive for the first time and went with Manual. So glad that I did; it’s great to have such a full and singularly focused activity as part of my regular schedule.

@manton Fun, indeed. I’m trying to stick with a manual until a replacement vehicle does all the driving for me. 😎

@manton The last time I rented a car, I did it through Turo just so I could rent a stick shift. So much fun, and feels much more like you’re driving than being driven!

@robo We’ve used Toro a couple times too, although for road trips to have a larger car. I checked it again recently and there are some fun cars on there.
