@rnv It still sounds good, if unexpected. I love Night Dreamer. Happy birthday!

@mjkaul @rnv Thanks! It’s one of those big round numbers that people usually make a big deal about so, back in January, we were thinking we’d have a huge party that maybe took over a room in a fancy restaurant, etc etc. On the other hand, I get to hang out with my favorite person in the universe and play guitar for her as she cooks fabulous meals, and drink bespoke cocktails, and listen to excellent music, and watch cheesy TV shows all weekend. And we’re healthy and safe, so I’m not going to complain. But still.

@rnv I just had a big round number birthday. In my family, it’s a tradition to celebrate them with something big. For this one, I started with the idea of Alaska cruise. Then I downsized to holding a concert with several of my local friends’ bands. But by January I just wanted to do something low-key:

“I would be happy just going out to dinner with the whole family.”

June: “Oh well, Zoom party it is.”

@maique Thanks! It really wasn’t bad at all — in fact, in many ways, it turned out to be one of the better ones. But it definitely wasn’t what I had imagined it would be…

@macgenie Yep, I followed a very similar route as the year, as it were, unfolded: big, then modest, then small.

@rnv Next year will surely, hopefully, better.

@maique I believe that! Also, next year I'm turning a prime number, which I actually like better than these big, dumb round numbers divisible by ten that everyone makes such a fuss over.

@rnv Ahahahah. This year was a special one for me, 49 and last one without a baby. We did it a small party and, three days later, national lockdown. I don’t really care about next year’s round number 😊

@maique Yes, 49 was special for me, too, I love that number. Also, I have synesthesia, so my relationship to numbers can be, at times, complicated.

@rnv Wow, that's a lot to wrap my head around, I'll have to go through the article a couple of times... At least I'm glad the 49 is one you loved. Is there a color associated with the number, as far as I could grasp from browsing through it, or some other manifestations when you read '49'. Hope you don't mind me asking, but this is the first time I've heard about synesthesia.

@rnv I missed this before. Belated felicitations, Robert!

@maique I don’t mind at all. Synesthesia is a very weird thing to try to grasp. Yes, “49” has a color for me. While some people with synesthesia apparently have a sort of double-vision when looking at print on the page, for me it’s mostly in my mind’s eye, the way seeing someone’s name on the page, or hearing their voice, might summon their face to you.

I could go on, and in fact I already did, but instead of posting it here as a very long reply, I’ll turn it into a blog post a little later. Stay tuned!…

@rnv Wow! Thank you for taking the time to write down such a thorough reply, it’s an enlightening read. As I told you I wasn’t aware of this, and reading it helped to understand a little about what you’re going through. It definitely adds a (can I say surreal?) layer to everything. I can easily imagine it being used for artistic purposes, but I get the feeling it might be exhausting at times.

@maique You’re welcome! But it isn’t an “additional” layer for me, it’s simply an aspect of how things are. Sousreal rather than surreal, you might say.

I’d love to say more, but I’ve been really busy the last day or two and I just haven’t had the time. I have a few more notes and comments that might bloom into another blog post. I’ll let you know if/when it comes together…
