I'm giving up on self-hosting analytics. Not a single one of them is installable by mortals. None of them have good docs that can be followed by an idiot (i.e. they make assumptions and skip steps). I tried umami, Plasuible, and motomo. Got the furthest with umami, but still nothing actually working.

This is why Google Analytics has won.

@thelinuxcast Matomo is super simple. Create a DB, dump the files, go through the wizard to connect the DB and you’re done. No more difficult than installing WordPress.
