I’ve been using HazeOver for Mac the last few days and quite like it. It dims your background windows to provide better contrast with what you’re trying to focus on.

@manton I swear by it. It’s great for focused writing without maximizing the app window.

@rmcrob Wow, that is especially nice to dim the apps that don’t yet support dark mode. They aren't glaring at you in the corner of your eye.

@cm @JohnPhilpin I have mine at 50%, and even with that I think it really helps. Nice that it's so configurable, though.
