Have you seen these integrated LED light fixtures? “No bulbs to replace”—which means when the bulb goes out you have to replace the entire fixture. And we know how the longevity of LEDs is overblown. It’s the majority of replacement light fixtures at my local Lowe’s. I’m a grouchy old man today.

@jabel Familiar from car repairs: having to replace a whole headlight assembly for hundreds of dollars rather than buying a replacement bulb for a dollar. In MY day...
There's a related grouchy rant in the Atlantic about how every device that uses a battery now comes with a rechargeable lithium battery, even when plain AA batteries would make more sense.

@JohnBrady @jabel Is the barometer low, making us grouchy? I posted this before I read yours.

@jabel @ReaderJohn As it happens, my wife and I shared another grouchy reflection today, about milk cartons. Our milk isn't available in cardboard cartons anymore, but our oat milk still is. In former times, a feature of these cartons was that the top flap unfolded into a nice triangular spout. Now, even though the carton's design is the same, they've added a plastic spout insert, wasteful, less elegant, and less functional. No wonder everyone is grouchy!

@JohnBrady The milk spouts! Preach.

With all of us airing our grievances it would appear that Festivus has come early this year.

@JohnBrady They did the same here! I don’t get it. It was perfect the way it was on that tetrapak.

@jabel If we're doing Festivus, I've got to call out the Democrats' "virtual vote" making it "official" that Kamala Harris is their Presidential nominee — oddly before the Convention, but (more?) oddly before a no-longer-existent August 7 ballot deadline in one state.

Having thus made it "official," why bother Chicago with all the controversy?

@ReaderJohn No politics at Festivus. That leads to angry Feats of Strength. 😉

@jabel As for longevity, I believe it's often the (cheap) circuitry that breaks, not the light emitting diode itself.

@renevanbelzen Ah, that's interesting. That makes more sense of the disconnect between the touted longevity and my actual experience.

@jabel My understanding is that the LED itself lasts a really long time, but slowly gets weaker.
