Talk about tight budgets… I've put myself on a calorie-resticted diet for athletes, mainly fresh vegetables and fruit. My food bill has been cut in half. Of course, there's the slight feeling of hunger to deal with. Self-control is clearly a myth; good planning is where it's at.

@renevanbelzen I always wonder why it is that when we feel hungry we have the need to eat immediately, while we don’t go to bed the moment we feel sleepy. Why is it ok to feel sleepy but not to feel hungry?

@jeroensangers I have no proven theory, but my guess is that the body prioritizes hunger over tiredness as a stressor. Thirst is even stronger in that regard, and lack of oxygen yet stronger. So, it's probably survival instinct. Despite a veneer of culture, we are still animals.

@jeroensangers Also, if you're feeling hungry, try drinking water or tea as a substitute. This uses the stressor priority I mentioned earlier, and the body seems satisfied for a while with quenching thirst instead of dealing with appetite. Dieters drink a lot of water, too.
