@gr36 I always thought of coffee as the kick-starter of my day, I had been fooling myself, it isn't

@gr36 I agree with the point. I also wish we were more honest about alcohol consumption. But the tone of the piece is devoid of compassion. It's a distateful read, when I'm used to the relative outrage-free discourse here. (And the writer, a former smoker, shouldn't get on his high horse about trashing the environment, unless he mentions the thousands of cigarette butts that he's contributed.)

@gr36 I read that post while sipping a cup of home brewed coffee. I enjoyed the coffee. I didn’t enjoy that post.

@jean @gr36 It's a typical Reddit post, unnuanced, black and white reasoning. The subreddit name (Unpopular opinion) says it all. I can add a few more, though, music listening, gossip, organized religion, etc., etc. All are bad in principle, but grease relationships between people in moderation. Guilty pleasures they are called, I believe.

@gr36 I’m just going to quote Captain Janeway:

Listen to me carefully because I’m only going to say this once: Coffee. Black.

@jean Agree. I'm only sort of into coffee (but will admit I use small quantities of caffeine to self-medicate for executive function deficiencies) but the tone here, and the sort of ad hominem attacks against coffee drinkers, overshadowed the larger point about addiction.
