Sounds like we’re in for an interest rate cut next month. We sold our house last year, starting to explore what’s next, so this will be a welcome change.

@manton do you rent now? in austin?

just curious. our house is cavernous without the kids here most of the year. so i’d love to sell, but don’t want to take on a 7% home loan and rents seem pretty brutal — so we decided to hunker down for a while more.

@manton Going back to owning a house? I thought you were going to retire in an apartment/condo? Rents have dropped by more than 10% in Austin in the last year.

@isaiah Yeah, we decided to downsize and rent while we decide what to do, but rent is ridiculously expensive right now. Only possible as a fairly short-term plan.

@pratik Back to owning makes the most sense for us. Not against retiring in a condo but a house would be nice again. Lots of trade-offs.

@manton I hear ya. We are seriously considering downgrading to a condo once the kid leaves for college. But would love to hear about the trade-offs. Maybe sometime over a beer/coffee.

@pratik Sure! Overall it’s been good to downsize, but we miss it sometimes too. Just didn’t need the space and easier to find a place a little closer into town too.

@manton @pratik we got back into a condo 5 years ago. It’s nice being small, though where we are is hot. We’re not in an area they will flood from the ocean or otherwise. The market is making it look like we’re staying. Likely going to invest in central air.
