@eumrz That will be quite the firehose in your feed reader, especially with the unread count. Right now, on the Micro.blog timeline, I've selected the reply option with mutual followers only, and even that gets overwhelming. BTW regarding replying on Micro.blog, use @sod's experimental feeds for each user. It comes with 'Reply on Micro.blog' regardless of whether the blogger has turned it on.

Also, I tried this method before. See this post on the Help forum.

@pratik where do I find @sod’s experimental feed, Pratik? Do you mean the siftrss service he suggests in your forum thread?

@eumrz just added the link in my earlier reply

@pratik Thanks a lot. The problem is that @sod's /feeds/user.json feed gives me the whole timeline for that user, with all their follows and replies. /posts/user is the one I want, posts and own replies only. But that doesn't work in @sod's version. I've tried several /posts/user and /posts/user.json to no avail.

@eumrz Yup. Perhaps that's why I gave up the RSS route too. The native ones didn't make replying easy and I like doing that on Micro.blog

@pratik I'll keep you posted. For the time being, I'll keep my follow backup file ☺️

@sod regarding this conversation with @pratik and this experimental RSS feeds of yours, would it be possible to make a feed for /posts/user.json feeds?

@eumrz @pratik @sod et al

Interesting thread. Whilst I am not planning to unsubscribe and resubscribe to RSS for the people I follow 😂 (life is too short), I am dropping feeds into a MicroBlog Folder with the plan to periodically update it and using @manton's blogroll functionality let others grab the OPML if they need it. Scroll To The Bottom

I also don’t intend to do this one by one - but rather bulk move the feeds as I find them in the wild.

Not sure if this makes sense, would be useful to anyone or if there is a better way - but thought I would see what happens.

@eumrz @sod I’d like this too.

@eumrz I’m glad that my posts inspired you to try this! Being able to easily reply to Micro.blog posts via the feed reader is a problem yeah, especially if you use the reply function often. I don’t, and I find that the added friction can counterintuitively help me focus on my larger purpose: living intentionally on the Web. So whether or not a solution works will also depend on what tradeoffs you’re willing to make. Good luck!

@JohnPhilpin I don’t know if I’d have a use for those OPMLs, but it’s so cool that we can play with these things and customize our own experience. Thanks for sharing.

@moonmehta Thanks, Jatan, we’ll see how it goes. More importantly, we’ll keep the conversation going, I really appreciate insightful views like yours, they help lots of people to find their own ways of living the web.

@eumrz @pratik @moonmehta It's possible, but not something I intend to work on. A workaround might be to follow the people you want to follow on Micro.blog and subscribe to your own timeline RSS feed. That should net you the same posts and replies in your feed reader.

Also, a friendly reminder that this experimental hobby project of mine is just that, a passion project. 🥰 It costs time, attention and money to develop, maintain and host and generates zero monies for me. Like any free thing on the world wide web, it might go offline anytime without prior notice. So, you know, don't rely on it for anything important.

@sod Totally understand! BTW what you do as a hobby is also much appreciated. In this case, your idea of what Micro.blog feeds should do has sparked many conversations and validated the need for such features.

@eumrz Interesting. I've been thinking of almost the opposite: moving all personal blogs and follows into micro.blog; and all other websites and news sources into NNW. I'll be curious to know how your experiment goes

@mroutley Second day into the experiment and I'm not totally sold. One of the goals is to not be checking my timeline all the time, and now I find myself checking NNW all too often. And replying is more cumbersome. I hope the change serves its purpose, the novelty wears off and, once I see that the feeds work properly, I keep away from all the distraction! 😅
