Now with his final high school concert and all the AP tests done, my son has to show his face at school and chill for next 4 weeks. Only important things left to do are senior prom and graduation. He doesn’t have to take any tests in his non-AP classes as his grades are good enough to be exempt.

@Parag Is he not taking his AP Exams which would give him college credit?

@Parag My daughter is in the same situation. AP exams are done, final exams in other classes are exempted. Her prom and sports seasons are over. All that's left is graduation. Thankfully, she's only got a week and a half left at this point.

@pratik Yes, he is. They are all done. Usually they are held in first 2 weeks of May.

@Parag I find this idea that there is nothing more to be learned and no experiences to be had in the last 4 weeks of school to be a bit odd. Are his classes not meeting?

@Parag I’m trying to remember back to the end of my high school, which was similar with IB/AP tests galore. I seem to remember many of my teachers teaching us about interesting subjects they were really interested in. Probably rose-colored glasses though. 🤣

@Parag Davidson is a wonderful school. He'll love it. My daughter is staying in Columbia and going to the University of South Carolina. Since I work on campus, it will be nice to run into her every so often.

@Parag Awesome. Wanted to clarify between tests (course-level) vs. exams (standardized by CB). Can you share which AP courses he completed?

@pratik Oh yes! I get confused between tests and exams. He is done with college board exams last week. For AP classes there are no separate finals for school grade. He took 8 APs through his high school career. Sophomore : music theory Junior : Calculus, Chemistry, Physics 1 Senior : Calculus BC, Physics 2, Stats, Language arts (English)

@esjewett For AP classes, I think only his Physics teacher is still teaching something more after the test. For Calc and English, they are playing games or just hanging out with friends. He still has class work in non-AP classes but with no more tests to take, not sure how serious the kids are about learning anything anymore. Considering the college admission process they went through over the last several months, I don’t mind if the kids stop learning and just have fun with friends for a few weeks. Some of these friends they will probably never get to spend time with again ever.

@Parag Got it! I think I misread your original tone, as I thought you were saying it was unfortunate he even needed to show up. But spending that time with friends is super important, like you say. Sorry about that!

@Parag This is how I recall my honors courses as well -- after The Test, we could usually just play games and such. Sometimes there'd be some attempt to make it a thematically appropriate activity, like making ice cream in chemistry or playing fantasy baseball using probability and such, but for the most part, it was just trying to enjoy a somewhat bittersweet time given that all our stresses had come to a head over the past several weeks. Just desserts, I say.
