How Much Does Happiness Cost?

For the truly impoverished, whom the book suggests have less than $10K/person/yr income, on average, in the United States, any increment in income brings a substantial increment in happiness. Once the $10K/person/yr threshold is crossed, further increase in income brings a marginal increase in happiness. When the threshold of $30k/person/yr is reached, additional income brings no increase in happiness.

@mbkriegh I think the $30k/yr/person will fulfill most ‘needs’ and then the rest are just ‘wants’ hence no marginal increase in happiness?

@pratik seems logical. The result being we “want” into oblivion…

@mbkriegh Yup. No one one really NEEDS a Lamborghini.

@pratik but the interesting thing is that owning a Lamborghini brings no more happiness than, say, owning a VW Beetle. If these stdies are correct, luxuries don’t bring happiness, at least not for very long.
