This is a great story from KUT on what happened with the Zilker Park train. Should’ve just fixed the track instead of starting over. Every experienced programmer knows this… Don’t rebuild everything all at once.
@manton This is so sad. But I hope at least now they cut their losses instead of sinking more money into it. Doesn't the oh-so-tiny Austin Zoo (very close to where I live) have a similar train? I'm not sure if they still have it because I recall hearing about how the zoo wasn't being run properly.
BTW when is Matt Largey at KUT going to quit Twitter and be on Mastodon? I recall DM-ing him about Micro.blog once.
@manton holy crap. I went to zilker over the holidays hoping to take the kids on the train and was disappointed when I saw the construction signs. I had no idea all this was going on!
@pratik I haven't been to the Austin Zoo in forever, and I didn't ride the train... It must be a much shorter track than the Zilker train, though, unless I'm misremembering the layout.
@manton I think it was just as long as the Zilker Zephyr. Actually, it has better scenic views. I just checked [the website])austinzoo.org) and it's still featured on there (bottom of the page). The map doesn't show the full train route, though.
