I have deleted Instagram from my iPhone again. This time I want to keep it that way.
ridwan.micro.blogI have deleted Instagram from my iPhone again. This time I want to keep it that way.
ridwan.micro.blog@ridwan I have done that before but it’s the only “social” network left where I’m in touch with my family and friends. Especially after I quit FB and WhatsApp Groups.
@pratik You were able to quit WhatsApp before Instagram? Funny how each country has a different reality, since that would be impossible for me.
@ridwan I install it only for the weekends, then delete it Sunday night or Monday morning. It's a compromise I have for using it.
@maique The one time I installed Whatsapp was when we were in Spain for a few months. Everyone there used it.
@Cheri Yes, we live next door to them, and it's the same here. I've been to a LOT of countries where it's also the de facto messaging app. We can't function without it, for work, family, friends, school...
@ridwan iI uninstalled the app from my phone and only access via mobile browser. The “lesser” experience through the browser also acts as a deterrent for me to visit it as often as I did with the app.
@jeroensangers @pratik @maique I have had WhatsApp installed once ... for a couple of months, many years ago. I was out hunting and most of the fun communication happened on WhatsApp, the serious stuff was on radio. But I stopped using it since one of nice things with hunting is that you have a lot of time to use for thinking. But I've never used WhatsApp elsewhere, I don't have Messenger, never communicates using Instagram, haven't got FB, occasionally use Discord, most of my communication happens via iMessage or email. Perhaps I'm a hermit 😜
@jemostrom Hahahahahaha... iMessage is almost non-existant here. A lot of people are on Android devices, and that also helped, I guess. Everyone talks on the same place, regardless of manufacturer.
@jemostrom @maique WhatsApp is big in India due to wide Android usage. Individual messages are fine and so are maybe smaller groups. But the ability to send crappy forwards drives me insane. Especially related to misinformation in health and politics. Have gotten into quite a few tiffs with family as well.
@jemostrom Yup! That's why I quit FB. Too much drama. And of course, privacy concerns. But WhatsApp is my only connection to family. Might get shade thrown that I'm trying to "distance myself from my Indian family since now I am in the U.S."
@ptrck That’s a good idea. But, I would just end up reinstalling the app. 🤣 I can see myself spending lotta time in it. Hence decided just to delete it.
@Dino Maybe I can try this idea for YouTube. Then again I will use it on my iPad. Damn these addictive algorithms. 🤣
@ridwan Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp. Got em all. Communication and connectedness FTW.
@pratik complicated situation. I'm lucky in that my family all use Apple devices but I got some comments from my extended family and some friends when I quit FB/Messages. But discord is becoming more popular
@jemostrom India is not that gung-ho about Apple. Well, my parents are not that tech-savvy so Discord would be impossible for them.
@pratik Apple stuff isn't super big here either, Android is more common. I just said to my family "I don't do support on Windows, only iOS, macOS and possible Linux" 😋
