An email from Maciej Ceglowski asking to convert the one-time fee for Pinboard to the new subscription one. I’ll have to review my use to see if it’s worth it.
@pratik Huh. I haven't received that email (yet).
(Frankly, I just don't use Pinboard enough to justify another subscription.)
@AngeloStavrow Just got it. Apparently, 2/3rds of users are on the fixed price model. I don’t actively use it and now there are more seamless options (Reading List, etc.)
@pratik That many, huh? It was an interesting pricing experiment at the time, but I guess that it wasn't as sustainable as expected. 🤷
@AngeloStavrow @pratik I haven’t gotten an email either, but if I’m forced into a subscription model I likely won’t renew it. I’ve been using GoodLinks as my Pinboard replacement and it seems to work well.
@peterimoore That’s what I’ve been using as well. I still never go back and read any of it, of course, but that’s besides the point. 😅
@peterimoore @angelostavrow He does lay out his reasons why including wanting to hire developers and create a unified pricing structure. I’m not convinced coz I like it for its barebones structure.
Re: you not getting the email, I read it carefully and right at the end, he says, “_ reaching out to just the oldest of old users_”
@pratik @angelostavrow In Pinboard’s defence, part of my switching was from none of the iOS apps being updated. I have a shortcut that saves to it but it doesn’t pick up the existing tags in the account so it’s not a great solution, and Pinboard’s web interface is not great IMO.
@peterimoore @angelostavrow The third-party apps have always been an issue including Pukka (remember?) I have used several over the years and just when I find one that I like, it wasn’t updated later.
@pratik @angelostavrow I was using Pinner for a long time until it just started having connectivity problems and not showing newly saved bookmarks. Looked at the App Store and it along with everything else was dead in the water, so I started planning my exit.
