This one of 32 by 32 pixels took me several hours and two iterations to complete.
@pimoore Thanks! I want to do more portraits at 32 x 32 pixels this month. Not making it a self-challenge, though. Pushing pixels is harder than it seems, much harder than conventional figurative drawing.
@renevanbelzen I really want to learn both digital and analogue drawing. I feel it’s something I’d really enjoy, my only fear being I have next to no talent. 😆
@pimoore Talent isn’t really required. It’s a misconception artists have special inherited traits. It’s mostly practice and patience. The first problem is to stop seeing symbols and start seeing shapes. That’s the biggest hurdle by far.
@renevanbelzen Thanks for sharing this, any other recommendations for good learning resources?
@pimoore First of all, draw what you love, much easier to express yourself that way.
Second, a good book for beginners is Drawing for the Absolute and Utter Beginner, by Claire Watson Garcia (free, if you want, on Archive∙org).
Third, for learning the art fundamental, The Ultimate Drawing Course - Beginner to Advanced, by Jaysen Batchelor (video course on Udemy), best when it's on sale.
That should keep you busy for a while. Have fun exploring your artistic side.
PS Mind you, there's some overlap between the book and the video course I mentioned. Some are better with books, others better with videos. Of course, there are much more art instructional books, like Fun with a Pencil, by Andrew Loomis, and many many more. Even Drawing for Dummies, by Brenda Hoddinott, despite its name, is quite good.
@renevanbelzen Thanks so much, Rene! Bookmarking all of this, but I’d probably start with the first one and go from there. I’m hoping to get good enough that in the future I could perhaps even make my own book cover art.
